After Your Treatment

It is crucial to the health of your skin and the success of your treatment that these guidelines be followed:

  • It is imperative that you use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day and avoid direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. Patients with hypersensitivity to the sun should take extra precautions to guard against exposure immediately following the procedure as they may be more sensitive following your treatment.

  • Your skin may be more red than usual for 2-3 days.

  • Please avoid vigorous activities and swimming during this time.

  • DO NOT apply any type of glycolic acid or exfoliation products as this can severely damage or irritate the skin during the entire healing process. You may resume the regular use of Retin-A, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA), or bleaching creams only after the peeling process is complete.

  • DO NOT peel, rub, or scratch your skin at any time, whatsoever. This WILL cause damage and compromise your results as well as possibly cause severe scarring.

  • When washing your face, do not scrub. Use a gentle cleanser.

  • Apply a light moisturizer twice every day or as often as needed to relieve dryness and tightness.

  • Do not have any other facial treatments for a least one week after your treatment.

  • Do not wax or use depilatory creams (such as Nair) for at least one week after your treatment.

Informed Consent:

Although every precaution will be made to ensure your safety and well-being before, during and after your exfoliating treatment, please be aware of the possible risks below.

  • I understand that after an exfoliating treatment, the skin is more susceptible to sunburn. Direct sun exposure is prohibited before and after a treatment. The use of a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 is mandatory. Tanning in tanning beds or outdoors should be avoided a minimum two weeks before and after treatment.

  • I understand that I may experience some discomfort to the skin such as temporary stinging, tingling, or warm flushing while the product is being applied but will subside and that during the next few hours. I may experience some tightening of the skin, which may last for several days. I agree to inform my skin care professional immediately if I have concerns or am overly uncomfortable during treatment or after I return home.

  • (Peels) For most, a light peeling begins within 48 hours. It is impossible to pre-determine how much peeling will occur. This shedding process usually subsides within 3 - 5 days. I understand that pulling or picking the skin may lead to infection or scarring. I understand I may or may not actually peel and that each case is individual. I understand that the amount of peeling does not correlate with degree of improvement.

  • I understand that I should not expose my skin to chlorinated swimming pools for at least one week after treatment.

  • I understand that if I suffer from cold sores or fever blisters, this treatment can trigger an outbreak.

  • I have not had any other exfoliating treatment of any kind within 14 days of this treatment. I understand I cannot have another exfoliating treatment within 14 days of this treatment, whether it is performed at this location or any other location.

  • My expectations are realistic, and I understand that the results are not guaranteed, due to each individual's unique reactions, and several treatments may be needed for maximum results.

  • I understand this treatment is a cosmetic treatment and that no medical claims are expressed or implied.
